The SPDR® Bloomberg International Treasury Bond ETF (BWX) is designed to track an index of fixed-rate local currency sovereign debt issued by investment grade countries outside the United States. The fund invests at least 80% of its total assets in securities that make up the index or in securities with substantially identical economic characteristics.
As a passive ETF, BWX provides exposure to foreign government bonds without currency hedging, allowing investors to benefit from-or be exposed to-fluctuations in local currencies relative to the U.S. dollar. The fund is classified as non-diversified, meaning it may hold larger concentrated positions in fewer sovereign issuers compared to diversified funds, which can increase its sensitivity to country-specific credit and political risk.
- ECB rate cuts compress yields on European sovereign bonds
- US dollar strength erodes foreign bond returns for investors
- Global inflation data drives foreign central bank policy expectations
