Description: VCR Consumer Discretionary

The Vanguard Consumer Discretionary Index Fund ETF (VCR) is a passively managed exchange-traded fund that tracks a benchmark index composed of U.S. companies in the consumer discretionary sector, spanning large, mid-size, and small capitalizations and classified under the Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS). The fund uses a full replication strategy, holding each constituent stock in approximately the same proportion as its weight in the underlying index. The fund is classified as non-diversified, which is notable given its broad exposure across the sector.

The consumer discretionary sector comprises companies that sell non-essential goods and services, such as automobiles, apparel, leisure products, and hotels, restaurants, and entertainment. Demand for these products tends to track broader economic cycles, making the sector more sensitive to changes in consumer income and confidence than the consumer staples sector. VCR launched in January 2004 and is listed on the NYSE.

Headlines to Watch Out For
  • Consumer confidence falls on inflation and tariff concerns
  • Amazon and Tesla dominate as top ETF holdings
  • Auto sales slow as interest rates remain elevated
